Well, yes! Chapter II of Arctic lights over Telegrafbukta my good friends! And there will probably be many more chapters as everything is so different each time I go there.
The awakening
Like every photography week end, I need to wake up early to shot the Arctic Lights:
- 10:30, the alarm rings. OK, this is the first ring, I still have time …
- 10:35, the alarm re-rings. Everything is alright, it is only the second ring …
- 10:40, the alarm re-re-rings. 5 more minutes and I get up … It is too warm here in the bed… and it’s cold outside.
- 10:45, the alarm rings again. F****n alarm clock! Come on! I can sleep 2 more minutes, can I?
- 10:50, …… COME ON! I noticed that you make sounds!!
- 10:55, Enough. I am fed up. I get up and quickly eat a breakfast before starting the soon traditional 45 minute walk to my favorite beach.
The departure
Streets are snowy and sidewalks pretty icy. Few people are walking in the streets. It is Sunday. Well, there is nothing really interesting during those 45 minutes of walk, so I’ll spare you that and start the article itself (Soon enough? ^^).
The magic of Norway …
The beach is relatively quiet, as usual. I find my usual spots, except that this time something has definitely changed. Winter is installed and has covered the rocks with a thin coat of ice. This gives a very special atmosphere to the place. But the show does not end there. The lights, the famous Arctic Lights, are definitely not legendary only by name. These blue and yellow colours literally captivate your mind. And the cloud covered mountains amplify the drama of the spectacle unfolding to my eyes.
This time, it’s high tide. The landscape is thus changed somewhat and my last spots are covered by the sea. However, after a few glances my anxiety gives way to the great pleasure of finding even more gorgeous spots.
But I forgot to charge my batteries since our return from Scotland … I am positioned to take picture the most magnificent picture I have ever took (I often think that this one picture I am doing is the most beautiful I’ve ever done … I am often disappointed afterwards ^^). And suddenly …. TADAAAAAA! no more battery … NOOOO! Anyway, I think I can make it last for a few more shots if I keep it warm in my hands for a few moment. And what a success! I could use it for at least another half hour.
After one of my most enjoyable photo shoots, the light begins to fall. I take a few more pictures. Happy, I then retire to the city center of a misty Tromsø in a light snow.
